Interesting Times

My proud first attempt in video editing with no help whatsoever.

Here is a little clip I made to illustrate my new question, how long does it take for your wait to become interesting.

Unfortunately the quality went down a little when I was exporting it. I'll try to fix it as soon as possible.

Alpha Road Project

This is a side project I'm doing at the moment along with my interventions at the bus stops. I will be posting every residents who live on my street sets of jewelery and ask them to all wear them on tuesday. I wanted to find out whether they would talk to each others or have any sort of interaction when they regonise their neighbours.

I was bored while I was laser cutting my side project so I tried out my new video camera on the production. I'll explain the project in details when I finish making them.

no. 73 Communal Music Station

Althought This has not been installed, I just loved it so much that i had to take it home and take some pretty pictures. A fully working prototype music system with choice of pop/chart, underground and radio.

Intervention Installation no. 67 and no.77

To be honest both of the installations are unsuccessful as no. 67 did not stay up and no. 77 was stolen within 2 hours. I will be re-installing no. 67 tomorrow and re-make no. 77. I refused to be beaten by thieves.

no. 67 Topic of the Day Comment Board

no. 77 Book Swapping Library

Random Chairs

Just some fun with some some vinyle squares from one of my intervention.
The one on the right is my favourite.

Prototyping Ideas

From the previous sketches, I have decided to create a few quick working prototypes to see the reactions I get from the public. I want to create a culture which is exclusive to the period of waiting. I have decided to focus on bus-stop as it is increasingly difficult to produce interventions in train stations due to security reason. The initial selections are the followings:

no.67- Comment Board for 'Topic of The Day'
no.73- A communal music station for people with similar musical taste
no.74- Designated waiting areas depending on your willingness to socialise
no.75- Excercise Corner
no.76- Game Installation
no.77- 'Swap a Book' Library
no.81- Make-Up Desk
no.84- Pocession Swaping Boxes
no.93- Dancing into each other
no.97- Ashtray Installation

40 Delveloped Ideas

After my failure to finish 100 initial ideas and the decision to move away from unconscious positive momentarily, I focused the last 40 sketches of the 100 initial ideas on waiting as a social platform.

no.62-Train Doors which can only be open by 2 people holding the doors in opposite direction

no.63-Escalators that only operate when there reach a certain number of people

Project in a Day

Our task today was to produce fresh ideas and imagine that our final year presentation is today at 16:00, pushing us to be decisive and confident in my work. I was torn between using waiting as a social platform and producing goodness unconsciously while waiting. At the end I went with the later and made a bus-stop model which harvest one's feet tapping energy for a light indicator to stop the buses. However, I did not satisfy with my outcome as I felt the outcome was very singular and doesn't provide potential for further interaction. This help me to make a decision to focus on social platform instead.
